What is the 287 Parent Committee?

  • Made up of people who would like to assist the squadron
  • All parents/guardians of cadets are members

  Responsibilities:

  • Providing funds for the squadron
  • Assisting in finding and enrolling staff members
  • Assisting in recruiting cadets
  • Screening volunteers
  • Serving as a liason between parents and staff members

  Details:

  • Executive meets once per month, the first Wednesday following the Commanding Officer's parade, interested parents are welcome to attend.
  • All parents are asked to attend 3 meetings: Sep, Dec, May (AGM).  At these meetings items will be discussed and voted upon including the squadron operating budget, fundraising ideas, parent volunteer commitments, fees, etc.

Parents who are unable to attend meetings are encouraged to contact a member of the Parent Committee Executive to see if there are other ways you can help... we need a large number of volunteers with different skills and talents to assist in various capacities!

Our Parent Sponsoring Executive for 2019-2020 year consists of the following people:
Chair - Brian Munday
Vice Chair - Trudy Eggleton
Treasurer - Brad Chrabaszcz
Secretary - Jan Shute
Director - Jaime Murphy

Please feel free to talk to any of these people regarding fundraising or League membership.

VOLUNTEER SCREENING PROCESS

The following link will take you to the Air Cadet League of Canada. There you can find the screening tab and then the application form/ applicant letter

Please bring these completed forms back to a member of the Parent Squadron Sponsoring Committee (we are usually across from the parade hall on Wed nights)

http://aircadetleague.com/screening-registration/

Criminal Record Checks must also be submitted.  You can do this online by following the link in the application form to EPIC. There is a $26.00 charge for using this service but you may then use the check for multiple organizations and it does save you the time and energy of visiting a police station.  If you wish to obtain your record check for free, you can visit either the RCMP station in Beaumont if you live within the City bounds or if you live in Edmonton at the EPS  station #108 14315-118 Ave in the Nexus building.

Please feel free to call Trudy if you have any questions.  780-288-0732

VOLUNTEER BOND CHEQUES

The squadron sponsoring committee is instituting a volunteer bond this year. The purpose of the volunteer bond is to encourage families to support the squadron. It does not affect a cadet's involvement in the squadron or the program.

The volunteer bond is not a fundraising initiative for the squadron. Volunteering to help the squadron has a greater cash value than the bond and we would like as many families to help out as possible.

We will now require each family to provide three undated cheques in the amount of $50 each and one undated cheque for $25.

Cheques should be made out to 287 Beaumont Air Cadets SSC

When a family has completed participation in a major fundraising activity, a $50 volunteer cheque will be returned to the family. When a family has completed participation in a minor squadron activity, a $25 cheque will be returned to the family. (See below for major/minor activities.)

If one family has more than one cadet in the squadron, only one set of volunteer cheques is required.

If a family does not have or use cheques, cash will be accepted. The parent sponsoring committee will issue a receipt for any cash received and a cheque will be issued when the activity has been completed.  If a cadet drops out of the program, the cheques will be returned.

How to Volunteer (Major Activities)

Parents who volunteer for the following activities will have a $50 cheque returned to them:

  • Become "screened as a volunteer with Cadets"
  • Bottle drive
  • Casino (287 casino only)
  • Ritchie Brothers Clean-up Crew
  • Poppy Days Monitor (screened parents only)
  • APC Calendar Sales (three or more calendars sold)
  • Board member/auditor
  • Canteen Monitor for a month
  • Other 287 squadron fundraising activities

How to Volunteer (Minor Activities)

Parents who volunteer for the following activities will have their volunteer cheques returned to them

  • Phone committee
  • Volunteer Bond monitor
  • Office copying materials
  • Brighten Up Beaumont volunteer
  • Mock Boards volunteer
  • ACR/year-end banquet volunteer

Thank you to our generous sponsors and supporters!
